These books are my latest pick of interesting and useful reads for people who work at home, or want to. Relating to all sorts of aspects of home working, I think there’s something for everyone.
Making it Work at Home: A practical guide to working from home (2013) by Anna Wright UK writer with lots of practical tips on issues such as workspace design as well as insurance, grants and so on.

Work from Home: How to Make Money Working at Home – and Get the Most Out of Life (2009) by Judy Heminsley A few years old but still a popular book by a UK author. Some great detailed advice about deciding whether home working is for you and the specifics of working at home effectively.
I Got Scammed So You Don’t Have To!: How to Find Legitimate Work at Home and Random Jobs in a Scamming Economy (2012) by Bethany Mooradian The title’s actually quite misleading as it’s about a lot more than scams. There’s loads of valuable information about non-scam ways to make money and run a business online.
The Work-at-Home Success Bible: A Complete Guide for Women: Start Your Own Business; Develop Telecommuting Strategies; Balance Work and Home Life (2009) by Leslie Truex US focused but still useful elsewhere, this one looks at teleworking (ie working as a home based employee) as well as running your own business at home.
Executive in Sweatpants: A Handbook for Launching Your Work from Home Career (2013) by Matt Keener I like this book because it’s different in a number of ways. For a start off it’s written by a man and is not slanted towards women or work at home mums (nothing wrong with a female focus of course but it’s nice to see a different angle). It’s also about the process of leaving a decently paid employed job to start up on your own and how to do that without bankrupting yourself! It’s targeted primarily at those with the type of skills that are particularly valuable online – IT, web design, writing, marketing and so on.
Realistic Home Businesses: Make Money Now With Your Own Home Business (2012) by Pat D. Sloss Full of suggestions for businesses you could run from home. Will certainly get your ideas flowing.
The Smarter Home Office: 8 simple steps to increase your income, inspiration and comfort (2010) by Linda Rae Varone Very practical tips on workspace design and organisation with a view to creating a space that improves your quality of work.
Work at Home Now: The No-Nonsense Guide to Finding Your Perfect Home-Based Job, Avoiding Scams, and Making a Great Living (2009) by Christine Durst & Michael Haaren This one’s specifically about actually finding work at home and the type of opportunities available, whether as an employee or self-employed. Some useful stuff on avoiding scams. Written by the owners of Staffcentrix, a US consultancy specialising in training around home based careers.
Work Women Want: Work at Home or Go Part-Time (2013) by Jennifer Forest Case studies of women who have chosen to either work at home or part-time for the sake of a better family life, and how they’ve done it. An interesting read.
